Practicing retouching with Solstice Retouch at CreativeLive

Ever since I started assisting this year, I’ve learned that one of my biggest downfalls was my retouching. I actually had some time off this summer, and I decided to spend some time improving my retouching skills. Earlier this week, I bought a three-day retouching course with Patrik Naik from Solstice Retouch, an amazing retoucher, who happens to work for some of my favorite photographers.

This was the first time in over two years that I bought a workshop from CreativeLive due t being in school, and I must say it’s by far the smarted purchase of my year so far. Patrik showed a bunch of awesome, but simple techniques, and maybe most importantly showed a proper retouching workflow. I am a huge believer in systems when it comes to getting consistent results, and I think the fact that I was lacking a proper system for my retouching has played a huge part in the end results of my work.

Here’s a before/after-photo that I did while watching a segment of the workshop.

If you are not familiar with CreativeLive, you really need to check it out! Over the past few years, they have gone from occasionally broadcasting workshops from a warehouse to streaming workshops 24/7 on 5 channels with studios both in Seattle and San Francisco. Their photography workshops have played a huge part for me in getting where I am today.

Are you familiar with CreativeLive? and if so, which workshop would you recommend?
